Three months on, college students pursuing science degrees will rub shoulders with Nobel laureates and world-renowned scientists. For the first time, India will host the Asian Science Camp 2010 in Mumbai. Organised by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, the camp starting August 17 will see 240 students from SAARC countries.
“The aim is to motivate students to pursue a career in science and research. It will also promote friendship and cooperation among the best young students of the next generation in the Asian region,” said H.C. Pradhan, HBCSE director.
The camp will be funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Started in 2007, these camps have been held at Taipei, Bali and Japan. The camp, open to first and second year science students, will have up to 10 Nobel laureates addressing them over five days. The programme will include plenary sessions, discussions, social events and excursion.
